What to Expect on the Day of Surgery

KNOWING WHAT COMES NEXT CAN MAKE SURGERY DAY EASIER.

Your Hinkapin Health navigator helps keep the different pieces coordinated — from preparation and scheduling through surgery day and recovery.

Every procedure and facility is different, but here's what you can generally expect.

01

BEFORE SURGERY DAY

Your care team will provide instructions specific to your procedure. Depending on your needs, preparation may include:

Preoperative Testing Medical Clearance Anesthesia Evaluation Medication Instructions Fasting Instructions Arrival & Transportation Details

Your navigator helps make sure you understand what needs to happen before surgery and who to contact if you have questions.

02

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

At the surgery center or hospital, you'll check in and the facility team will confirm the information required for your procedure.

If questions arise regarding the coordinated surgical arrangement, your Hinkapin navigator can help connect with the appropriate facility or benefits team.So you can focus on your care rather than the coordination around it.

03

BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE

In the preoperative area, members of your surgical and anesthesia teams will prepare you for the procedure.

They will review important information, answer final questions and complete the necessary preparations before you enter the operating room.

04

DURING SURGERY

Your surgical and anesthesia teams will care for you throughout the procedure, with appropriate monitoring based on your surgery and anesthesia plan.

05

AFTER SURGERY

Following your procedure, you'll be taken to a recovery area where your care team will monitor you as you recover from anesthesia and determine when you're ready for the next stage of recovery.

Your length of stay will depend on your procedure, medical needs and progress.

06

GOING HOME

For outpatient surgery, you'll receive discharge instructions before leaving the facility.

These may cover:

Medications Wound Care Activity Diet Follow-Up Appointments Warning Signs Who to Contact

Make sure you and where appropriate, your caregiver understand these instructions before leaving.
